Impressions of Sicily

This curated collection emerged from collaboration with photographer Cees Mutsaerts, who reviewed my Sicily archive and selected images that, in his view, best represent my photographic perspective on the island's character.

His selections span Sicily's geographic and cultural diversity: Palermo's chaotic energy, baroque elegance in southeastern towns, Mount Etna's volcanic presence, coastal villages preserving fishing traditions, and the layers of history visible in everyday scenes.

These photographs capture Sicily as I experienced it—an island where Greek, Roman, Arab, Norman, and Italian influences create unique visual texture. Every region offers distinct character, from the sun-bleached buildings of the interior to Palermo's ornate churches and the dramatic contrast of black volcanic soil against Mediterranean blue.

This collection serves as a visual introduction to Sicily's multifaceted identity, highlighting images that effectively convey the island's complexity, beauty, and photogenic appeal.
