Myanmar often disappears from international attention, yet its people deserve far greater recognition and support.
We visited Myanmar in 2001 and 2007, and both journeys left profound impressions. The country's people—incredibly kind, open, and resilient—made these trips unforgettable, despite the challenges they face under military rule.
Our travels included Myanmar's iconic destinations: the floating gardens of Inle Lake, historic Mandalay, the ancient temple plains of Bagan, and the gravity-defying Golden Rock pagoda. However, Yangon's magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda captivated us most. We spent countless hours at this sacred site, wandering its golden terraces and conversing with monks and students.
These photographs, though taken years ago, document Myanmar as we experienced it—a country of extraordinary beauty and remarkable people navigating difficult circumstances.
